Driving on the roadways around large tractor-trailers can be daunting. These vehicles can cause serious injuries if they get into an accident. Today, the team at the Law Offices of Howard Craig Kornberg wants to discuss a recent crash that happened in West Covina involving three big rigs and a car that left one person dead. Our Los Angeles truck crash lawyers are here to help anyone injured in a crash caused by another driver’s negligence. We are ready to secure the compensation you deserve.
What happened in this crash?
A crash that occurred on the eastbound 10 Freeway in West Covina left one person dead. The incident, which happened on Sept. 26, began when traffic was stopped on the freeway because of another crash. One large tractor-trailer did not stop and ended up striking another big rig. That second truck was pushed into a third big rig, which then struck a Honda.
The driver of the second big rig, a 52-year-old man from South Gate, was killed in the accident. The driver in the first big rig had to be extricated from the vehicle. Firefighters used axes to free him from the steering wheel.
These incidents are often devastating
We do not yet know why the driver of the first big rig did not stop for stalled traffic. All too often, we find that these incidents are the fault of negligent or careless drivers. It is not uncommon for a large truck crash to be caused by a distracted or impaired driver.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) says that there were more than 148,000 injuries and 4,761 fatalities as a result of large truck crashes during the latest reporting year across the US. It is not uncommon for our Los Angeles truck attorneys to see the following injuries in the aftermath of these crashes:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Bone fractures and dislocations
- Loss of or damage to a bodily organ
- Dismemberment or amputation
- Other injuries that inhibit a person’s daily activities
- Significant disfigurement
In the crash discussed above, a truck driver was killed. This is fairly uncommon, as it is usually those in regular passenger vehicles who fare the worst in a large truck crash.
