Nobody should ever have to worry about getting injured in a hit-and-run accident. Unfortunately, there are times when careless and negligent drivers cause serious harm to other people and then flee the scene. At the Law Offices of Howard Craig Kornberg, we are dedicated to helping victims who have been injured in hit-and-run incidents. Today, our car crash attorneys want to discuss a recent case that has affected a local family.
We want to go to a story a little bit out of our coverage area because it involves a San Bernardino boy who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Thanksgiving Day. Kennedy Francisco, 11, was ejected from a vehicle onto Interstate 40 after a single-vehicle rollover crash west of Needles at around 6:40 p.m. on November 28.
After he was thrown from the vehicle, another vehicle traveling on the freeway struck him but continued driving. Francisco died at the scene due to his injuries. Police are still looking for the driver of the other vehicle.
Francisco was traveling with his mother and two brothers to spend time with family in Arizona. Heavy rain caused the roadways to become slick. Francisco’s mother lost control of her car, which led to the rollover incident. She, along with her other two sons, also suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Hit-and-run accidents are common. Fleeing at the scene of a crash is a crime in the state of California. There are various reasons why a person leaves the scene of a crash. It is often because they are driving illegally (impaired, no license, uninsured) and do not want to get in trouble with law enforcement. However, but not stopping in rendering aid to people injured, hit-and-run drivers jeopardize lives.
During the latest reporting gear in California, the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) says that there were 329 fatalities and 26,612 injuries caused by hit-and-run drivers across the state. These incidents often lead to severe injuries. It is not uncommon for our San Bernardino hit-and-run accident lawyers to help clients suffering from the following:
