A few days ago, one man died and another was seriously injured after a car ran a red light at a Riverside intersection. The crash happened early Friday morning at Van Buren Boulevard and Jurupa Avenue. A Ford Focus was going south on Van Buren and ran through a red light as the driver tried to make a left turn on Jurupa.
“As the driver entered the intersection he collided head-on with a silver Hyundai that was traveling north on Van Buren Boulevard,” said the Riverside Police Department.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead soon after the accident. The driver of the Hyundai has moderate injuries.
This incident highlights just one danger that our drivers face on a daily basis. Reckless and negligent drivers cause far too many accidents in Riverside and in California as a while.

For the latest reporting year in California, there was an increase in traffic fatalities, with the total climbing to 3,623. Out of the hundreds of thousands of injuries, almost 12,000 were considered serious.
In Riverside for the same year, there were a total of 2,651 people injured or killed in traffic-related accidents.
Vehicle accidents are scary and the injuries can be devastating. Even minor injuries can leave you needing time away from work while you heal. For major injuries, such as spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, or other internal damage, surgery and long-term rehabilitation may be required.
What many people do not consider are the hidden costs of these injuries. These can include lost income for the injury victim and the person that is taking care of them as well as the cost of any accommodation needed for homes and vehicles in the aftermath.
Did you know that alcohol-impaired drivers are responsible for more than 25 percent of the state’s traffic fatalities?
Nationally, distracted drivers are becoming more of a problem as technology invades our driving space. It is estimated that nearly 400,000 people were injured in the US according to this report.
Careless, negligent, and reckless drivers will continue to be a problem on the roadways, but they should not cause you to become financially unstable.
