Signs That Your Hip Replacement Could be Defective

On behalf of The Law Offices of Howard Craig Kornberg posted in Product liability

Hip replacement surgery is a common procedure performed daily in hospitals all over California for patients of all ages. When your hip is replaced it’s due to medical conditions that have made your body part too difficult to live with anymore. The issue with your hip could become even worse after the surgery due to problems with the hip replacement product put in your body. That’s when you might have a product liability case. Our Los Angeles product liability attorney would like to share signs that your hip replacement could be defective in today’s post.

Continued and Excruciating Pain

One of the most common signs of a defective hip replacement is continued and excruciating pain. A surgery that is effective should eventually relieve your pain and help you walk better than you did prior to the surgery.

If you are weeks or months past the surgery and continue to suffer from excruciating pain it’s quite possible that the hip placed in your body is defective and should be replaced. Pain following a hip replacement surgery could also be caused by infection within the leg, a damaged artificial hip joint, a loose implant, and many other reasons.

Friction in the Leg

Another sign of a defective hip replacement is friction in the leg. This happens when the hip implant is loose, causing friction between the joints and the bones in the leg. This can lead to bone loss and even cause additional surgeries to be too difficult for surgeons to perform, further adding to your pain and stress.

Increased Falls

When you are dealing with a defective hip replacement you could see an increase in falls. The instability of the replacement hip could cause you to struggle with balance, climbing steps, bending over and more. This is a common sign of a defective hip implant that can lead to suffering more severe injuries if you fall often.

Unfamiliar Noises

Listen closely to your leg when moving around the house following the hip replacement surgery. If you are hearing unfamiliar noises, such as popping or grinding, you could be dealing with a defective hip implant. These noises should not be ignored and you should seek a medical evaluation from an independent doctor not associated with the surgery immediately.

Other Signs of Illness

There are other signs of illness you need to be on the lookout for when you have surgery that involves metal-on-metal hip implants. These signs include rashes on the skin, issues with your kidney, dysfunction with your thyroid, fractures, infections and other issues. These illnesses are likely due to metal poisoning within the body.

Medical Malpractice

A defective hip implant could wind up leading to a medical malpractice case if the issue was not due to the product itself being defective. The issues from the hip implant could have been due to mistakes made by the surgeon during the surgery.

Do you think your recent hip replacement surgery did not relieve your pain; you could have a defective product on your hands. Call our Los Angeles product liability lawyer at 310-997-0904 to schedule a consultation about your injuries from the surgery.
